Control Room and Patrol Officer
Due to an officer relocation, we are seeking an SIA Licenced Security Officer to work to a 4 On and 4 Off shift pattern, although some flexibility will be required to support colleagues around holidays etc, Each shift is 12 hours in duration and based from our own control room facilities here at our head office in Moulton Park Industrial Estate, Northampton. Each shift will be dedicated to either working as a Control Room or a Mobile Patrol Officer. Full training is provided as both roles are notably different:
A typical shift for one of our Control Room Officers provides a varied and fast paced challenge that would include:
- Handling Telephone Calls
- Dealing with Incoming Alarm incidents
- CCTV Monitoring of Private Space Premises on an activation basis
- Liaising with Staff and Clients
- Dispatching Mobile Patrol Officers
If operating as a Mobile Patrol Officer – as part of our response teams – a typical shift may include:
- Responding on site as Key Holder within 20 minutes of an alarm activation
- Investigating suspicious activity observed via our Control Room CCTV monitoring services
- Completing scheduled locks, unlocks and patrols
- Meeting with static officers for welfare checks
- Working in partnership with our control room officers
In order to work as an officer with us, and as a requirement by law, you must hold both a valid and apt SIA as well as a Manual Driving Licence. You will also need to have a checkable work history. If you meet this criteria, it is assumed that you would be able to perform the duties however we are built on more than merely an ability to do the job; in order to thrive in the environment we have created you will also need to be:
- A Team Player
- Eager to learn and develop
- Prepared to challenge yourself and your colleagues
- A good decision maker with a keen eye for detail
- Able to demonstrate excellent customer service levels
- Comfortable with the use of a PC or touchscreen
We offer a basic wage aligned to your experience – we have no problem if you have no previous control room or patrol experience as long as you have the desire to learn and enhance your skills. You may be a very experienced officer already, equally we would be delighted to speak to you and discuss how adding your skill set to our own experienced team may work. Regardless, the pay scale means that we are able to offer above market rate hourly pay to all – average hourly rate currently paid is £12.97 per hour across Patrol and Control.
In addition to the pay scale we also award Stars for tenure, service and review of our officers, each Star increasing your hourly rate as acknowledgement of a job well done. Across our Control and Patrol services we also ensure a monthly incentive scheme is in place so that the three best performing officers each month receive a bonus.
Our business operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week and this helps present options for overtime or additional hours should you want them. We also ensure a sliding pay scale so should you find yourself a part of a smaller control/patrol team you can expect your earnings to be higher – our team approach ensures that if a team is at less than full capacity, you get paid more as that’s both right and fair.
Each shift is worked alongside up to a further 4 other officers in your team at peak times and the majority of hours are worked overnight, however weekend works, including the occasional weekend daytime shifts, are also a part of the role.
As with all fundamental roles to the business we have created a career progression path here at Scorpion which provides all employees the ability to clearly track their progress within the company. In addition, we provide a full uniform – the same uniform worn throughout the business from Reception to Directors – an example of our one team approach.
Furthermore, you can also be enrolled into the company pensions scheme and benefit from up to 28 days holiday per annum – we try to approach holidays with common sense and where possible plan shift rotation around holiday bookings to help our officers maximise their allowance – so the 4 On 4 Off can provide up to 12 days away from work whilst only having to book 4 days holiday – it’s not always possible of course but hopefully this kind of thinking highlights how importantly we treat the time off officers need. This also extends to sickness or absence – if a member of your shift team is absent at short notice, an additional £3.00 per hour would be paid to those that attend the shift. If your asked to work a last minute shift in these instances we also provide a £5.00 per hour additional late notice pay.
Furthermore, longer tenure within the company earns additional holiday entitlement.
Our facilities include free onsite parking, gym and refreshments, all set in an environment built specifically for officer welfare with dining space, showers and lockers all available.
In addition, our personnel department will support you as much as you prefer in order to progress, developing Personal Development Plans to ensure you have every chance be awarded further Stars to increase your earnings or develop into role changes.
So flexible shifts, sliding pay scales, increments earned vs hourly wage and monthly incentives – these elements combine to see our control and patrol staff well rewarded for a job well done.
*NOTE* Because we work to a roster that allows for 4 consecutive 12 hours shifts, we have found that applicants should give proper consideration to commute times, as longer travel times to and from work can can have a detrimental affect on performance. Should a 12 hour shift plus commute therefore evolve into a 13 to 14 hour day due to travel, this can prove challenging to manage, especially at times when officers are due back in for their next shift that night for example. Please consider this if you are applying from distance.
If you believe you have the right qualities to join the team here at Scorpion, please forward your CV.
